Lisa Hooton ~ teacher of the Alexander Technique

About Me

I have a love of all forms of movement and dance and was trained in drama and dance therapy.  When I was young I was very slumped and was constantly told to stand up straight.  Of course I couldn’t for more than a few moments.  At that time, I did not understand the unity of the mind, body and emotions.

I had my first Alexander Technique lesson in my twenties. I recognised then that the Technique offered a unique approach to a way of being in one’s whole self.

I took the opportunity to train as a teacher when we moved to Devon in 1999.  I trained for three years with Danny McGowan and Sarah Paice at C.C.A.R.E near Totnes.

The Alexander Technique, once learned, is something that stays with you.  It is essentially a self-help method.  As awareness of oneself grows, it is harder to go back to old habitual patterns.

During my training it was often repeated to us that ‘the Alexander Technique is constructive, conscious control of the individual by the individual’.
